How to Determine Your Skin Type
To take proper care of you skin, you must first know what skin type you are. Although each person is unique, there are a few general signals that may suggest if you have normal, sensitive or oily skin. But before you proceed, you need to wash your face.
Step 1. Look at you skin.
The first step to determine your skin type is very simple: go by sight. Look in a mirror at your skin and see if you notice some redness or flakiness. If so, you most likely have dry and sensitive skin.
If instead you notice that your face looks shiny, then you have oily skin, while if everything seems normal is because, well, you have normal skin.
Step 2. Now look at your pores.
Another way to understand what type of skin you have, is to look at your pore size. If you can see them even when you take a step back from the mirror, you have oily skin. While, if you almost can’t see them at all, not even looking closely, then your skin is sensitive and dry. To have a normal skin, your pores should be visible, but not too large.
Step 3. How does your skin feel when you cleanse it?
Cleanse your skin like you normally would. Does it feel clean afterwards? It’s because you have oily skin, which hardly gets deprived of its natural oils when you wash it. But if it feels taut and possibly itchy, then you have sensitive skin. It might even get irritated with some products. With normal skin, you should feel a little tightness around the cheeks, but your T-zone will feel clean.
Step 4. Put a tissue on your skin.
You can also use a tissue to determine your skin type, but you have to wait a few hours from the last time you have washed it. Use the tissue to pat your T-zone and look at it. If you can see oil, then you have either oily or normal skin, depending on the amount. If the tissue isn’t wet at all, then you have sensitive and dry skin.
Step 5. Pinch your skin.
A little pinch can do a lot when it comes to finding out what type of skin you are. If you notice wrinkles when you do, then you have normal or sensitive skin (this last one will have more wrinkles). If your skin looks smooth and elastic, you probably have oily skin.
Easy, isn’t it?
As previously said, each person is unique and there are many factors that can vary your conclusion. For example, age and climate. For a more custom-made analysis, you should talk to your dermatologist.
Finally, remember that each type of skin needs specific care or products that are suitable for all types of skin.
